From Sherbrooke, Quebec, Julien came up through road racing before gravel pulled him away from the peloton for good. Off the bike he's a graphic designer — and yes, he's probably the one quietly making everything look better.
Get to Know
How did you find cycling — and gravel specifically?
My father got me into it. After a few seasons on the road, racing started to feel stale — too rigid, too predictable. Gravel gave me freedom and fun back. Though I'd push back on calling it "my thing." It's more like our thing — a constantly evolving thing — and that's what keeps it interesting.
What's the hardest part of competing at this level?
Canadian winters. Full stop.
Why Lunch Box?
Good vibes. A lot of fun with amazing human beings.
A goal most people don't know about?
I don't want to be an astronaut.
How do you decompress?
Music, art — get that other half of the brain activated.
What would surprise people who only know you as a cyclist?
My glasses are strong enough to start fires with sunlight. So there's that.
Lunch Box karaoke night — what are you singing?
Van Halen — Panama. Obviously.
